Being Fruitful

A Dad’s Daily Word

And God blessed them. And God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and subdue it, and have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over every living thing that moves on the earth.”

Genesis 1:28

I was on the subway one morning on my way to work when I overheard a conversation between 2 young guys.  From what I could tell, one had recently gotten married and naturally, the conversation turned to family.  When asked about his plans for having kids, this guy said that he and his wife weren’t planning to have kids.  He said, “I just don’t want the hassle.”

The job of a father (really parenting in general)  is not easy.  On the other hand,  the human race cannot continue without us.  Therefore, our job is essential.  As you can see in the scripture reference above, God commands us to be fruitful and multiply.  You may think that you aren’t cut out to be a father but I encourage you to spend time and seek the wisdom of the one who truly knows.  You never know.  Being a father may be God’s true purpose for your life.

A Prayer for today:  Lord, I come to you seeking your wisdom.  I don’t know if my purpose is to be a father but I know that you do.  Lead me and guide me Lord so that it is not my will, but your will be done.  I pray this in Jesus name, Amen.
