Don’t Be Afraid

A Dad’s Daily Word

“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”

Joshua 1:9

I remember when I found out that I was going to be a father.  Even though my wife and I planned to become parents, the reality still came as a shock.  I started to get scared when I thought of the responsibility that I now had.  My first thoughts were, “Do I have what it takes to be a good Dad?”  I was very unsure of myself.  Luckily, I had several men whom I could turn to for advice.  Some like my Dad reminded me that I am not the first who has been down this road.  Others reminded me that God wouldn’t put more on me than I could bear.  In short, they all told me the same thing.  Don’t be afraid.

If you are having similar doubts, let me remind you that God has a plan for you.  If God allows events such as the birth of a child, then he has a plan to use it for His glory and for your good.  Don’t be scared.  God will make a way for you to do whatever He has called you to do.

A Prayer for today:  Heavenly Father, I know that you have a plan for me.  I know that your plans are for good and not evil.  Help me to stand tall and courageous so that I may accept my assignment as the father of this child.  Mold me and shape so that I may be the father that he/she needs.  I pray this prayer in Jesus name, Amen.
